Theme for an Imaginary Episode
of SG1
This is a proposal for an episode of SG1. I have never written a screen play before so you may want me to simply write a short story and then have your writers convert it. You may also want to take the idea from this email and have your writers write it in-house. In either case I think you’ll agree it is a good story line and is consistent with your show’s character.
My only base requirement is to get credit for the idea and the general plot.
PLOT:
The story begins in the conference room of General O’Neil where SG1 is discussing the risks of rescuing SG14 who is separated from the gate by indigenous hostiles on planet FRS14367 (or whatever). SG14 is in no immediate danger since the locals have substantially lower level technology and SG14 is fairly well supplied. SG1 passing through the gate ‘hot’ could easily create a corridor for SG14’s egress back to the gate and few (if any) of the locals would need to be hurt or killed.
The problem is that our sun is in an anomalous state and anything could happen at any time. Colonel Carter reminds the group of a couple of past episodes where they ended up in the wrong place or the wrong time.
The General asks a few questions about the scope of the risk, and then tells them the mission is a go.
The team suits up and passes through the gate.

While in the wormhole the sun flares and we see the SGC working feverishly to recover the lost fix on the destination end of the hole. General O’Neil is commanding extra effort when the console operator announces, “We lost them.”
SG1 is spit out of a gate into a grassy meadow surrounded by tall conical spruce trees. They are all aware this is not the arid landscape they were expecting. As they wonder around looking for clues as to where they have landed people begin to come out of the forest to see them. The people are clothed in warm clothes and firs. They are speaking an ancient Cyrillic dialect that Daniel identifies as early Russian.
SG1 goes to the village where they are fed and slowly communication is established with these people. The people are talking about their new religion which has been spreading through the whole earth. They are early Christians. Daniel is able to establish by their conversation that the team has landed on earth sometime in sixth or seventh century A.D. and that they are in an area of Russia that will one day be partitioned off and become Ukraine. They have come through the Russian gate and are back on earth.
“How are we going to get back?”
Commercial …
“Sarmatia Europia,” Daniel is stating as we return from commercial. “We are in Russia north of the Roman Empire! Rome still exists as an empire at this time!”
“Daniel,” Sam responds, “settle down. Do you have some idea how to get us home?”
“No, if we dial our gate we will end up under ground in Egypt. Besides, how will we know how to calculate when there is going to be another anomaly with the sun and how it is going to affect us?” Daniel queries.
“We need to go to Greece,” Sam replies, “I think they have equipment that we can use to see the sun and see what it is doing.”
“What good will that do?” Jonas asks.
“I don’t know,” Sam says frustrated “but it is more likely we will succeed there than out here in the wilderness!”
“In deed,” Teal’c agrees.
So they set off walking or horseback through Dacia, Moesia, Thracia and Macedonia and begin searching for help in the towns of the Aegean Sea. (In actual life this is five hundred miles or so and would take ten or more days on good horses. So we may want to add some rain and an overnight camping scene.)
During the day of their arrival at on coastal town they witness a comet or meteor streaking through the sky toward where they had come from followed by a very bright light and an earthquake. (In real life these would not have been seen and probably the earthquake would not have been detectable for hours after impact.)
“Well, now we know,” Daniel says in a matter-of-fact tone.
“Now we know what,” Teal’c asks.
“Now we know how the dark ages were ushered in,” Daniel responds in is normal tone, “now we know it is 534 or 535 A.D.” (600 AD) or click here or here
“Teal’c and I need to go see if the gate survived,” Colonel Carter states. “You and Jonas stay here and find a way to calculate when we can go.”
Teal’c and Sam ride off.
“Any ideas,” Jonas asks.
“Maybe one,” Daniel responds.
Commercial …
In the first part of this segment we find Daniel and Jonas building a machine to calculate the rotation of the planets, the sun around the center of the galaxy, etc. His idea is to compute when the most likely time is for an eruption by turning time backwards in his device until they reach the current time of 535 assuming it is 535.
See KYERTHA or click here
Daniel spends some time discussing how he and Sam might be able to move time backwards to discover the next solar flare to occur in the past from their time but in the future from the current time.
Cut to Sam and Teal’c in a waste land of ash and burned up trees. The smoke and ash are so thick they can not proceed and assume the gate has been buried until it is discovered in the future.
“What will we do now,” Teal’c asks.
“I guess we’ll have to go to Egypt,” Sam responds.
“But that gate has no power source,” Teal’c reminds her.
“I know Teal’c,” she smiles a determined smile, “one problem at a time. We need to get out of here before this place kills us.
We find them back with Daniel and Jonas.
“Have you found anyone that can help us,” Sam asks.
“No but,” Daniel crosses the room and picks up the Anitkythera Mechanism, “I thought you and I could use this to figure out when the next anomaly will occur and then we could dial the gate and get home.”
“Except the meteor buried the gate,” Teal’c states flatly.
“We’ll have to use the Egyptian gate,” Sam states.
“How,” asks Daniel.
“I don’t know,” Sam says. “We’ll have to invent a power source … I don’t know … let’s just get down there and figure it out on the way.”
We see them on an ancient sailing ship enjoying a beautiful day on Mare Internum, the Mediterranean Sea. Sam and Daniel are standing at the gunwales dropping the Mechanism over the side.
Commercial …
As they get to Egypt the weather is eroding because of the dust and ash that has been thrown into the atmosphere from the meteor. Lightening is striking and it is raining like a monsoon.
“I have an idea,” Sam says as the ship enters the port of Alexandria. “Didn’t they find batteries in the excavations of ancient Egypt?”
“I like it,” Daniel says with a smile as he watches the lightening.
Scene changes and you see Sam and Jonas making super-sized batteries in clay water bottles. (See batteries)
Teal’c and Daniel come in from the rain.
“They’re digging up the gate,” Daniel states.
“How did you get them to do it,” Sam asks.
“I told them the rain ad lightening was the gods punishing them because we were here, and the only way we could leave was to go through the gate.”
“Well,” Jonas says, “this is the last battery, we need to rig up the charger.” He stands and picks up a golden rope. “I acquired this from the a fancy building down the street, I hope they don’t mind.” He heads for the door, “Sam?”
“Go ahead,” Sam says “I’ll finish here.” Daniel, Teal’c and Jonas leave to string the golden wire to capture lightening and charge the batteries.
Commercial …
It’s raining. SG1 is standing by an active gate. The event horizon is shimmering like a pool of water. There are ancient Egyptians all around them. Daniel is talking to them earnestly.
“What did you tell them?”
“To be sure to bury the gate as soon as we leave and to destroy the batteries.” Daniel responds “there must be no evidence we were ever here.”
“What did they say,” Teal’c asks.
“They said they wood,” Daniel says as they walk to the even horizon four abreast. “We better hope they do or else …”
“Or else what,” Jonah asks just as they enter the worm hole.
As they come out the gate into the SGC we hear Daniel,
“Oh good,” they did it.
“How do you know,” Jonas asks.
“Because this is the same gate we just walked into!”
“Where have you been,” General O’Neil asks.
“In the dark ages,” Sam replies as the credits roll.
